Sturgeon’s earliest surviving* video is conceptually built on a series of vignettes loosely fashioned on the thematic aspects of – “translate”: to turn from one form into another, to change the condition, nature of, etc.
Our protagonist finds himself waiting in transit, there is an anticipation of traveling in unknown ways to unforeseen places. He tries adjustments, attempts changes. Yet there are awkward distortions and vexing illusions clouding the way. The piece permeates with the vague sense that things may go awry with no clear resolution, as one often senses in a dream.
